The Column Caper
The year is 1955. Just a decade after the close of WWII, the cold war between the U.S. and the Soviet Union is in full swing. Mr. Scope has decided to host a soiree at his mansion. Each guest has secrets they’d rather keep hidden, and if Scope is going to let the cat out of the bag, then Scope’s number might just be up.
Description
It’s been a decade since the end of World War II and 2 years since the conclusion of the Korean War. Many in America are committed to rooting out communism by any means necessary. It’s been a year since Senator McCarthy led a legal crusade against those presumed to be communists (known as the Red Scare), destroying the reputations of many innocent people. Support for McCarthyism has waned, but Americans are still suspicious and untrusting of those who profess to be communists.
Mr. Scope, a prospering newspaper magnate, has decided to host a soiree at his mansion. You’ve heard rumors that there is something big that he plans to announce at this gathering. People from all walks of life attend the party, and although the conversation is light and pleasant, every guest is filled with a sense of dark foreboding. Each guest has secrets they’d rather keep hidden, and if Scope is going to let the cat out of the bag, then Scope’s number might just be up.
Each character has bits of information on the other characters at the party. Some information helps vindicate suspects and other info condemns them. Guests will mingle with one another to gain these bits of truth to find out who committed the murder. Whichever character has the most evidence pointing at them is the murderer. Be cautious though, whoever the killer is can lie to make it seem as if other characters are guilty. At the end of the evening, each guest will vote on which character they think is the killer.

1 review for The Column Caper
Each of your guests have different pieces of info on the means and motives other characters, but no one character has all of the facts. Mingling with other guests and exchanging information will enable your guests to discover who is a murderer.
Pieces of evidence will be revealed such as Scope’s Last Will and Testament, a burnt note, and a suspicious drink to help your guests identify who ended Scope.
The killer is the person that has the most motive, means, and evidence stacked against them. But beware, the killer (or killers) are able to lie about the other guests, redirecting suspicion back on others. Will the party guests be able to identify who is responsible for killing Scope or will whoever committed the crime get off scot-free.

I tried this murder mystery and it was so fun! Everyone got to participate equally and I didn’t see the reveal coming.
